Exterior House Painting for Jupiter Homes

The short answer

ClearCoat Painting repaints stucco, block, wood and siding exteriors around Jupiter using washing, crack repair, masonry primers and UV- and mildew-resistant topcoats. Good prep and the right coating for coastal sun and salt are what make an exterior paint job last.

The outside of a house this close to the Atlantic takes a beating that inland homes up north never see. Strong sun bleaches the south and west walls first. Salt carried on the ocean breeze settles on stucco and trim. Summer storms drive rain sideways into window frames, and the humid air keeps a thin film of mildew growing on the shaded side. ClearCoat Painting repaints concrete-block, stucco, wood and fiber-cement exteriors in Jupiter and the surrounding towns with that climate in mind. Our goal is a finish that stays tight to the wall and keeps its color, with the prep work done properly underneath rather than covered over. This page walks through how an exterior project runs, from the first walk-around to the final cleanup.

Is it time to repaint the outside?

Color fade is the first thing most owners notice, but it is often the least serious problem. Rub your hand across a sunny wall. If it comes away with white powder, the paint is chalking, meaning the binder has broken down and the surface is no longer shedding water well. Other warning signs deserve a closer look before the next rainy season begins.

  • Hairline or map-pattern cracks in stucco that let water reach the block
  • Peeling or blistering on fascia, soffits and door frames
  • Dark streaks of mildew or algae on north-facing walls and under eaves
  • Rust stains bleeding from fasteners or railing posts
  • Gaps where caulk has shrunk away from windows and trim
  • An HOA notice asking for a refresh or an approved color change

Protecting your yard, roof and outdoor spaces

Exterior work happens among the things you care about: hedges, palms, flower beds, pavers, pool decks and screened lanais. Before washing starts, we wet down plants near the house so cleaning solution does not soak into dry leaves, and we cover beds and shrubs with breathable drop cloths rather than plastic that can cook plants in the afternoon sun.

Windows, light fixtures, door hardware and electrical boxes are masked with paper and tape. Pavers, driveways and pool decks are covered where overspray or drips could land. Patio furniture and grills are moved away from the walls, and if a pool is close to the work, we keep debris and paint away from the water. Pets and kids should stay inside or away from the side of the house where we are working on any given day.

Preparation: the part that decides how long paint lasts

Most exterior failures in South Florida trace back to paint applied over dirt, chalk, salt or moisture. We follow a set order on every house.

Washing comes first, using a mildew treatment and low-pressure rinse so stucco is cleaned without being etched or forced full of water. The walls then need time to dry, which can take longer during the humid months. Next comes scraping of any loose or peeling paint, especially on wood trim and doors, followed by sanding to smooth the edges so they do not show through the new coat.

Cracks in stucco are opened slightly and filled with a flexible patching compound or elastomeric patch so they can move with the wall. Rotted wood is flagged for repair or replacement. Joints around windows, doors and penetrations are caulked with a paintable, exterior-grade sealant. Finally, bare or patched masonry gets a masonry primer or sealer, and any bare wood or metal gets a primer suited to that material.

Choosing coatings, colors and sheen for coastal conditions

On stucco and block walls, we usually recommend a high-quality acrylic exterior paint or, where cracking is a concern, an elastomeric coating. Elastomerics build a thicker, stretchy film that bridges fine cracks and resists wind-driven rain, though they need sound surfaces and careful application. Both should contain mildew-resistant additives for our humidity.

Sheen affects both look and durability. Walls often look best in flat or low-sheen finishes, which hide surface texture. Trim, doors and shutters do well in satin or semi-gloss, which sheds dirt and is easier to wipe clean. Deep, saturated colors fade faster under strong UV light and absorb more heat, so we talk through color choices with that in mind. If your community has an HOA, check its approved palette before deciding; we can paint to the color names and codes the board provides.

Applying the coats and working around the weather

Paint goes on with a combination of spraying, back-rolling and brushing. Spraying gets coating into stucco texture quickly, back-rolling pushes it into pores for even coverage, and brushing handles cut lines along trim. Most walls receive two finish coats over the primer.

From May through October, afternoon thunderstorms are routine, so we start early, work the sides of the house that the sun has already left, and stop in time for paint to set before rain arrives. Hurricane season runs June through November, and if a storm threatens, we secure ladders, materials and drop cloths and resume once the walls are dry. Many owners prefer to schedule exterior work in the drier months between November and April.

Cost factors and caring for the finish

Exterior projects are priced after an on-site look, because the condition of the surface drives most of the labor. After the job, a little care keeps the paint looking right longer.

  • Surface condition: amount of cracking, peeling, chalk and wood repair
  • Square footage of walls, plus soffits, fascia and garage doors
  • Height and access: two-story walls, slopes, pool cages and tight side yards
  • Number of colors and how many accent areas or shutters are included
  • Trim detail, decorative bands, columns and window surrounds
  • Paint quality and whether an elastomeric system is used
  • Rinse walls gently once or twice a year to remove salt and pollen
  • Trim shrubs and irrigation heads so they do not keep walls wet
  • Re-caulk small gaps as soon as you notice them

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (561) 292-1157 and we’ll talk it through.

Which time of year works well to paint a house exterior in Jupiter?

The drier stretch from November into April gives longer dry windows. Work during the wet season is still possible with early starts and close attention to the forecast.

Should I use elastomeric paint on my stucco?

It is a strong choice for stucco with hairline cracks or heavy rain exposure. On sound walls, a quality acrylic exterior paint may be all you need. We assess the wall first.

Do you pressure wash before painting?

Yes. Every exterior is cleaned and treated for mildew before painting, using pressure suited to the surface so stucco and wood are not damaged.

Can you paint my house in HOA-approved colors?

Yes. Share the approved color names or codes from your association, and we will use those exact colors.

Do I need to be home while you paint the outside?

Not necessarily. We need access to outdoor outlets and water, and gates unlocked. We will let you know when windows need to stay closed.

How do you handle the area around my pool?

We cover the deck near the walls, keep materials and debris away from the water and take care when spraying near the pool and screen enclosure.
